Today is THE day.

Vendors are already setting up (7am)
Volunteers are already organizing.
Decorators are collecting fresh cut flowers.
Racers are adding final details.
(We heard about a fancy idea for some sparklers on the zucchini racers)
And the final reveal of the ZuccaMelons.

Speaking of reveals: the judges were serious about the various categories, tasting and deliberating until past sunset last night.

Oh and the grade 5 garden contestants sent a photo gallery of the gardens.

Will be updating today as the sun rises and finding our places in the audience for the live music.

See you there.

As I am still new to the community - I am curious if there are experts of the fall fair who have some suggestions on how to experience the events for the day. (I am sooooo excited!!!!)

I have been told:
"Great bands. Great food. The peak of entertainment is definitely the zucchini bobsled race."

Are there any volunteers who want to share how they have enjoyed being involved?

Vendors? Is anyone available to chat with me about the venue, the vibe and how you want to be highlighted?

Sponsors ... an incredible amount of gratitude for the support of this event. There are histories of commitment and new friends to meet.

If you want to join in, build your Zucchini bobsled, then registration is 11:30-12:30pm the day of the fair, the race to follow at 12:45pm! Good luck to all the racers!!

The Summerland Fall Fair is on Saturday, September 14 from 10am - 4:30pm. This annual free event is held to celebrate and support our agricultural community. At the event, you can view the exhibition upstairs at the Ryga Centre, enjoy live music on the lawn, participate in the popular Zucchini Race, pet some goats, get your face painted, and check out the many non-profit booths, farmer booths, and food trucks. It's fun for the whole family so we'd love to see you there at the Arts Centre Park in Summerland!

On the day of the salsa garden party, there was much sizzling and roasting, boiling and blending at the Carcajou Fruit summer kitchen. The three amigas who made the salsa were in their element. I learned that they are very adept at producing large quantities of food to share with their community. In Mexico they have numerous celebrations throughout the year where the neighbours come together by the hundreds to share a meal. Our block party was a small gig for this crew.

Under the instruction of Pamela, the Salsa Boss, I learned that salsa is so much more than what we find on the grocer’s shelf in Canada. Over the course of three hours, my three amigas made 7 different types of salsa. We will have a salsa garden party again next summer!

We will host a salsa making demonstration with Octavio at the Summerland Fall Fair on Saturday, September 14th at 2 p.m. We plan to use ingredients grown in our garden on that day.
